Apr 12, 2018 (newstodate): Iceland's Loftleidir Group is considering whether to take a stake in Cabo Verde's IOSA-certified national airline TACV, Cabo Verde Airlines.
In August 2017, the Government of Cabo Verde and the Loftleidir Group signed a contract for assistance in the restructuring of the loss-making and heavily indebted TACV Cabo Verde Airlines.
The agreement aims to position TACV as a key strategic asset contributing to Cabo Verde's potential as a year-round tourist destination, and to develop Cabo Verdes position as a transfer hub with a CAT 1 airport linking four continents.
As part of the agreement, Loftleidir has placed two Boeing 757-200 aircraft on an ACMI contract with TACV that operates only one aircraft of this type, and more aircraft are expected to be added to the contract as Icelandair takes in new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
The government of Czabo Verde has aired the option that Loftleidir/Icelandair may receive stakes in TACV instead of direct payment under the contract, an issue which has still not been decided upon.
The contract between the two parties are signed for 12-month periods, with provision for continued extensions.
