Apr 11, 2018 (newstodate): Finnair Cargo saw total volumes carried in March 2018 down by 4.3 percent, y-o-y, to 11,975 tonnes.
The decline reflects the absence of volumes on Japan Airlines' flights between Helsinki and Tokyo as JAL took back sales of its capacity on the route from October 29, 2017.
The drop was also impacted by the Chinese New Year and the Easter holidays.
Cargo on freighter flights however still comprises three weekly freighter flights between Helsinki and Brussels, operated by DHL and lifting 675 tonnes in March.
Cargo on the Asian lanes was 8,822 tonnes, an increase by 11.1 percent, y-o-y, reflecting more Airbus A350 capacity, new routes and increased frequencies on several routes.
Cargo in the North Atlantic routes also increased by 2.4 percent to 670 tonnes, while loads on the European routes declined significantly by 19.1 percent to 1,754 tonnes.
In this year's Q1, Finnair has thus transported a total of 30,717 tonnes, down for percent but still with a sound increase on the Asian lanes, up 16.8 percent, y-o-y, to 23,269 tonnes.
