Apr 24, 2018 (newstodate): The pace of Norway's seafood exports to China has slowed down after detection of massive irregularities in the "back-door" deliveries via Vietnam.
Speaking at the recent Schenker Seafood Air Logistics Conference in Oslo earlier this month, the issue was brought up by the Head of Airfreight at Marine Harvest, Tom Erling Mikkelsen.
-The Backdoor into Chine via Vietnam has now been closed. It was in reality smuggling! Now the trade has been stopped after volumes through Vietnam reached 2,523 tonnes by week 14, Mr Mikkelsen said.
According to media reports, a Norwegian national was driving the illegal trade into China via Vietnam, and after the fraud was detected the volume of Norwegian seafood into Vietnam has dropped by two-thirds by end of week 15.
Volumes from Norway directly into China have also declined, however, by some 20 percent on an average by week 15, compared to the weekly average in weeks 1-15, 2018.
