Mar 26, 2018 (newstodate): The Russian aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi has sent one Superjet 100 from Zhukovsky Airport to Svalbard - the world's northernmost civilian airport in the Arctic ocean.
The aircraft has performed a number of tests on its visit to verify the performance of the flight systems and navigational equipment under the harsh arctic conditions at the Norwegian island, where operations are close to the edges of the aircraft's flight envelope.
One specific challenge is operating the GPS systems at conditions where provision of satellites is very limited.
