Mar 08, 2018 (newstodate): Long rumored, Latvia's airBaltic has now confirmed the opening of seasonal flights between Latvia and Kazakhstan.
The first flight on the route between Riga and Almaty will be performed on April 29, 2018, with the Bombardier CS300 aircraft operating three weekly rotations on the route that will be the carrier's second-longest after the Riga-Abu Dhabi route opened on October 29, 2017.
Almaty, the former capital of Kazakhstan until Astana was constructed in the north, was earlier on airBaltic's route network.
With the first flight on April 17, 2008, airBaltic started serving the route with two weekly rotations from Riga using Boeing 737 aircraft, but pulled out again from the start of the winter schedule 2009/10 as the crisis hit the global economy.
