Mar 21, 2018 (newstodate): Finnair needs more aircraft capacity and is seeking earlier deliveries of its remaining eight Airbus A350 aircraft.
Finnair received its latest new Airbus A350 in September 2017 and is to receive its 12th aircraft with production number 265 as planned in this year's Q4.
Rearranging the delivery scheme, one aircraft has now been moved forward from 2023 to 2019, while another will be delivered in 2020 rather than 2022 as earlier planned.
Finnair will thus receive two in 2019, two in 2020, two in 2021 and the last of the 19 aircraft ordered in 2022.
Earlier, the last Airbus A350 for Finnair was slated for delivery in 2023.
Finnair received its first Airbus A350 aircraft from Airbus on October 7, 2015, as the first European operator of this aircraft type.
In October 2014, the Scandinavian carrier SAS firmed up its MoU signed in June 2013 with Airbus for eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft, with options for a further six aircraft.
According to the MoU, SAS would take delivery of its first of eight Airbus A350-900 aircraft in 2018.
With a later deferral of the delivery scheme, the first three aircraft are now slated for delivery in the SAS Group's fiscal year 2019/2020, which means first deliveries starting not earlier than November 2019 and stretching into 2020.
So far only the first A350 for SAS has been placed on Airbus' production list as #360.
