Mar 19, 2018 (newstodate): With a daily cargo capacity up to 30 tonnes on the Boeing 787 aircraft between Helsinki and Tokyo, Japan Airlines plays an important role in the Finnish and Nordic markets.
-A prime commodity on our flights to Japan is the Norwegian seafood, notably fresh salmon trucked into Helsinki from production sites in Norway, says Tetsu Koyama, Japan Airlines Station Manager Helsinki Vantaa Airport.
-Since October 2017, we have taken back full control on sales of capacity on the flights, earlier outsourced to Finnair, and we are seeing huge potentials only restricted by the size of the aircraft.
-We would indeed be happy to see our company allocating larger aircraft on the route, but I am afraid the is no such capacity available for the time being.
-We have certainly been impressed by Finnair's new, state-of-the-art COOL terminal but it does not exactly match our demands and procedures. So we have opted for Swissport at Helsinki Airport for handling of our shipments from January 1, 2018.
-Japan is advanced in technology, but we still prefer to have a hands-on, manual handling of our sensitive seafood cargo, so for the time being at least we have opted out of Finnair Cargo's offerings who are installing full automatic handling system, says Mr Koyama.
