Mar 09, 2018 (newstodate): While Ryanair has presented a schedule with sustained growth in traffic in Lithuania, the future of the carrier in the Baltic region is under scrutiny.
According to Ryanair CCO David O'Brien, speaking to press in Vilnius, Ryanair will reconsider its future in the region if plans for a hike in airport charges in Lithuania is realized.
Ryanair now has two bases in Lithuania with two aircraft allocated to Vilnius and Kaunas, respectively, while operations in Estonia and Latvia are not established at permanent bases with own aircraft capacity.
Ryanair now mulls plans for setting up a new base in either Tallinn or Riga, or in both markets, with up to five aircraft allocated on a permanent base.
Ryanair first launched business at Latvia's Riga Airport on October 31, 2004, and at Estonia's Tallinn Airport on December 13, 2010.
Ryanair performed its first flight in Lithuania at Kaunas Airport on September 22, 2005, and made Kaunas Airport its 40th base from May 2, 2010, adding services at Vilnius Airport from May 2011, and to Palanga from March 2016.
