Mar 28, 2018 (newstodate): Finavia has now started a three-year project for renovation of the apron area.
Over the coming three years, reconstruction works will proceed in phases during three consecutive summers to cause minimal disturbance to the air traffic, stretching from the start of April till the end of October in 2018. 2019 and 2020.
The apron areas will have new concrete slabs to withstand the load of modern airplane types, and part of the aircraft stands will be fitted with sturdy structures to support environmentally-friendly de-icing operations.
In addition to improving the taxiway connections, one of the taxiways will be made suitable for wide-body aircraft, and after the apron renovation about half of the 14,000 lights in the Helsinki Airport traffic area will be retro-fitted with energy-efficient LED technology.
