Mar 05, 2018 (newstodate): The first airline in Kyrgyzstan has now completed its IOSA certification process, obtaining the certificate on March 1, 2018.
Taking the lead is Air Manas, based at Bishkek's Manas International Airport.
The Kyrgyz low-cost carrier operates one Boeing 737-600 and one Boeing 737-800 aircraft on routes to domestic destinations as well as to China, India, and Moscow.
Set up in 2006, Air Manas carried out its first flight in December 2009 and in June 2012, 49 percent of the stake was bought by Turkey's Pegasus Airlines.
The IOSA certification allows the carrier to conclude code-sharing and interline-agreements with other airlines, and the carrier will obtain better leasing conditions which will enable Air Manas to increase its aircraft fleet.
Today, the IOSA registry includes only 423 of more than 6,000 airlines around the world.
Since 2007, Kyrgyzstan is however still on EU's Air Safety Black List barring the country's airlines from access to the EU markets - being now the only CIS country on the list.
