Mar 21, 2018 (newstodate): In 2017, cargo volumes handled at Copenhagen Airport increased by 5.4 percent, y-o-y, to 395,431 tonnes.
The totals include 296,394 tonnes carried by legacy carriers and 69,037 tonnes carried by integrators FedEx and DHL.
Of the 296,394 tonnes on legacy carriers, belly cargo accounted for 117,330 tonnes, freighter operations generated 66,535 tonnes, mail volumes were 26,997 tonnes and trucked cargo generated 85,531 tonnes.
Compared to the airport's figures on 2016, belly cargo volumes increased by six percent, volumes on freighter operations dropped 8.3 percent, mail volumes increased by 10.5 percent, and cargo on road feeder services increased by 8.7 percent, y-o-y.
Belly cargo on legacy carriers thus accounted for 39.6 percent of the total volumes, excluding integrators, and rising six percent in 2017.
Cargo on freighters accounted for 22.4 percent of the total volumes, but down 8.3 percent, while trucked cargo at 28.9 percent of the total volumes in 2017 increased by 8.7 percent in 2017.
Reflecting these developments, Copenhagen Airport has its strategic focus on belly cargo in response to the continued build-up of long-haul traffic with large commercial aircraft - and one result of this strategic focus is plans for construction of a new 20,000 sq m terminal dedicated to handling of belly cargo in a partnership with the German investor AXXUS and to be operated by a yet-unnamed cargo handling company.
