Mar 06, 2018 (newstodate): The ground handling company Aviator is upbeat about adding cargo handling to its service portfolio at Finland's Helsinki Airport.
-The opening of ASR Cargo Terminal at Helsinki Airport from March 1, 2018, allows us to offer a full package of services in both passenger and cargo handling to our airline customers, says Veijo Karosvuo, Aviator Finland Managing Director since May 2014, and Managing Director already for the previous Servisair Finland which offered full ground- and cargo handling services at Helsinki for decades.
As a result of Swissport's take-over of Servisair in 2013, Servisair's ground handling companies at Helsinki Airport as well as at London Gatwick Airport and Newcastle Airport had to be divested by Swissport as a precondition for the EU Commission's accept of the merger transaction.
The ex-Servisair ground handling company at Helsinki was renamed Helsinki Handling NewCo Oy, managed by Veijo Karosvuo from January 1, 2014, put up for sale and acquired by Aviator in April 2014 and named Aviator Finland with Mr Karusvuo at the helm.
In October 2017, Aviator Finland and ASR Cargo Center signed an agreement to start closer cooperation with effect from March 1, 2018, to offer airline customers joint on-airport cargo handling at Helsinki through one-stop ground- and cargo handling service from one counter.
-ASR Cargo Terminal starts out modestly with four off-line carriers which is actually splendid as it allows us to bring things in place at manageable volume levels - while building a solid base for a fresh start, says Mr Karosvuo.
-Efforts will now intensify to acquaint Aviator's large portfolio of airlines at Helsinki Airport with our new capabilities in providing a comprehensive package of passenger and cargo handling services under one unified contract which will undoubtedly appeal strongly to the market.
-Aviator will capitalize on a close personal relationship with our customers, and after opening the ASR Cargo Terminal with our partner, our next milestone will be announcing the first on-line airline customer with a joint passenger and cargo contract, says Mr Karosvuo.
Located in part of the former Finnair Cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport, the 3,000 sq m ASR Cargo Terminal has the capacity of handling up to 40,000 tonnes of cargo annually, with space for future expansion.
