Mar 05, 2018 (newstodate): Still in its developing phase, Moscow's Ramenskoye Zhukovsky Airport is building up infrastructure and an expanded route network.
Ramenskoye Zhukovsky Airport was officially opened for traffic from March 15, 2016, with two runways, one of which is the longest in Europe - 5,400m, and aims to grow its passenger through-put to three mio in 2019.
Plans are to see the opening of 20 new routes in 2018, adding to the existing flights to Rome, Istanbul, Tel Aviv, Minsk, and Jinan.
Zhukovsky Airport was also selected by the country's newcomer to the cargo industry, Sky Gates Airlines to serve as its hub for the Boeing 747-400F freighter fleet starting operations from October 2016, but the carrier decided instead to move operations to Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport as Zhukovsky had still not completed the pertinent cargo terminal infrastructure.
Now, the subsidiary company Zhukovsky International Airport Cargo, a partnership with investors from the UAE, has started construction of a modern cargo terminal to offer a full package of cargo terminal services including storage of temperature-sensitive shipments.
Work will also start to increase the apron area to provide for simultaneous parking and maintenance of several wide-body aircraft, bringing the total apron area to over 150,00 sq m.
Lithuania's Avia Solutions Group holds 75 percent of the stake in the JV controlling Zhukovsky Airport.
