Feb 09, 2018 (newstodate): Vallair is all-in for conversion of Airbus A321 to freighters, contracting two separate providers as first-mover in this new business.
Earlier this month, Vallair signed a contract with the German aerospace company Elbe Flugzeugwerke for conversion of 10 A321-200 passenger aircraft to a 14-pallet cargo configuration for Vallair.
The first of these aircraft will be inducted in the last quarter of 2018, scheduled for redelivery by end of 2019.
This marks the second A321 P2F contract from Vallair that signed a with contract already in October 2017 with the US company 321 Precision Conversions for a yet-unspecified number of A321 conversions.
-The prototype aircraft with the serial number MSN891 is already in Florida and being tested and engineered by 321 Precision Conversions, says Peter Koster, Vallair Business Development Director.
-We ferried the aircraft to Precision in July 2017 and the aircraft has just performed a series of test flights last week. The conversion work is about to start in spring with the cutting of the door.
-The EFW induction will be in September 2018. They do not need so much reverse engineering as they have direct access to OEM data, says Mr Koster.
Conversion of the world's fleet of some 1,400 Airbus A321 aircraft will become increasingly relevant as the new A321NEO aircraft hit the market causing the residual value of the A321 Classic to reach a level where P2F becomes a viable option.
