Feb 15, 2018 (newstodate): Kalaallit Airport A/S, set up in June 2016 by Greenland's government to materialize plans for a new airport infrastructure in Greenland, is now preparing the process for new runways at Nuuk and Ilulissat.
Greenland's government has approved its part of the financing of the projects, and Danske Bank has been entrusted with seeking investors for loan financing of the remaining part of the capital, with Greenland providing state guarantees in support of the loans.
Pre-qualified tenderers for construction of runways at Nuuk and Ilulissat airports will receive the tender material in May 2018 with an expected deadline for submitting their bids for the projects separately or in combination in August or September 2018, after which a winner will be selected.
Contracts with construction companies will then be signed in September/October 2018, and runway construction works will start by April 2019.
The runway at the capital airport at Nuuk will be extended from today's 950m to 1,800m, Ilulissat Airport will have its runway extended to 1,800m from today's 845m, and a new airport will be constructed at Qaqortoq with a 1,200m runway.
