Feb 09, 2018 (newstodate): Avinor has now released cargo statistics for 2017.
Oslo Airport thus saw its cargo volumes up by 32.1 percent, y-o-y, to a record-high total of 181,265 tonnes.
The increase was driven by a huge rise in shipments of seafood products, driving international cargo volumes to 158,828 tonnes, up 38.9 percent.
Lifting the seafood exports in 2017 were both passenger flights and all-cargo operators including Korean Air Cargo, Qatar Cargo, Cargolux, ABC Airlines, DHL/Atlas Air, Turkish Cargo, Emirates SkyCargo and CAL Cargo Airlines.
As a result, the proportion of seafood exports lifted out of Oslo Airport rather than trucked into continental airport rose from some 30 percent to about 39 percent.
Of the total of nearly 230,000 tonnes of Norwegian seafood air shipments, about 61 percent still left the country on wheels.
-The volume of general air cargo lifted by carriers such as TNT, FedEx, DHL and UPS increased by some 25 percent, y-o-y, in 20917, while all-cargo operators lifted 58 percent of the total volume, says Martin Langaas, Avinor Director Traffic Development & Cargo.
-Intercontinental flights to Asia, Africa and USA saw an increase by 52 percent in cargo volumes carried in 2017.
Avinor's cargo statistics include flown cargo in and out of the airport only, thus not counting transfer, transit or trucked cargo volumes.
