Feb 26, 2018 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic is increasing its aircraft fleet with four new aircraft, with deliveries to start already from May 2018.
The new aircraft are not for passenger transportation, though.
The three single-engine DA40 NG training aircraft and one twin-engine DA42-VI training aircraft will be placed with the airline's newly established Pilot Academy at airBalticTraining, and the aircraft order with the German company Diamond also comprises an option for a further eleven aircraft.
Besides, airBalticTraining has also ordered a DSIM flight training simulator to be placed at the facilities at Riga Airport.
To fulfill its immediate and future needs for pilots in a highly competitive pilot market, airBaltic set up its pilot academy in December 2017 and already claims over 200 applicants for ab-initio pilot training courses, with the first course training 12 students to take off.
