Feb 07, 2018 (newstodate): Cargo volumes remained almost unchanged, y-o-y, at Finland's Helsinki Airport in January 2018.
A total of 12,784 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled at the airport, down 1.3 percent, compared to last year.
International cargo accounted for 11,760 tonnes, slightly down 0.9 percent, while international mail volumes were down 0.7 percent, to 867 tonnes.
Together, international cargo and mail dropped 0.9 percent, y-o-y, to 12,628 tonnes in January 2018.
The big event in January 2018 was the opening of Finnair's new cargo terminal at Helsinki Airport on January 8, which obviously did not create major issues in the airport's cargo handling, in marked contrast to earlier experience at other European airports such as London Heathrow or Copenhagen Airport where the opening of new hi-tech cargo terminals often led to unpredicted traffic chaos and piles of short-shipped or "lost" cargo.
