Feb 08, 2018 (newstodate): Icelandic know-how is assisting in turning-around Cabo Verde's IOSA-certified national airline TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and build a new position for the island's main airport.
In August 2017, Loftleidir Icelandic, TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and the Government of Cabo Verde signed a management agreement on the restructuring of the loss-making TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and position it as a key strategic asset to contribute to Cabo Verde's potential as a year-round tourist destination, and to develop Cabo Verdes position as a connecting hub with a CAT 1 airport linking four continents.
Since then, the Icelandic experts allocated to the project have worked on a new five-year plan for TACV Cabo Verde Airlines and is now engaged in the task of implementing these new strategies.
The Icelandair Group has also allocated the first two Boeing 757-200 aircraft to TACV by early November 2017, the third aircraft will follow early in 2018, and the fourth and last under the current contract will be delivered around May 2018.
The first two aircraft are thus now deployed to serving routes from Cabo Verde to Portugal, the USA, and UK.
Should the government of Cabo Verde eventually decide to privatize TACV, Icelandair will have preemptive rights to acquire 51 percent of the shares in the airline.
