Feb 14, 2018 (newstodate): 2018 started out with an increase in cargo volumes at the Faroe Islands' Vagar Airport.
A total of 90.3 tonnes of cargo and 21.9 tonnes of mail was handled, up no less than 134.5 percent and 10.9 percent, y-o-y, respectively.
The unusually high growth in volumes in January 2018 compared to the preceding year is, however, mainly due to the fact that SAS only started servicing the route between Vagar and Copenhagen from March 26, 2017, with a total of 12 weekly flights with Airbus A320 aircraft in competition to Atlantic Airways that had so far been alone on the route on a daily basis.
Vagar Airport is currently working on selecting the coming new Airport Manager to succeed Jakup Sverri Kass that stepped down in November 2017 from the position held since April 2012.
A total of 68 applicants have filed for the job, and a decision is expected to be announced by April 1, 2018.
