Dec 21, 2018 (newstodate): As part of WOW Air's reining-in on scope and ambitions, the carrier is to divest of four Airbus A321 aircraft.
The carrier has now signed a contract with Air Canada to take over the aircraft, operated by WOW Air since 2014, already by January 2019.
One Airbus A321 till now operated by WOW Air has already been leased by Aruba Airlines, leaving so far seven units with WOW Air together with one Airbus A320neo and two Airbus A321neo aircraft.
Only in August 2018, the carrier's promotional material claimed that WOW Air was accounting for 37 percent of all air traffic at Keflavik Airport and heading towards overtaking the country's national carrier Icelandair already in 2019, ending 2018 with 3.6 mio passengers and targeting 3.9 mio passengers in 2019.
Since them, the "WOW effect" has evaporated, leaving the carrier in financial distress and only narrowly rescued by Indigo Partners in a deal yet to be finally inked.
