Dec 19, 2018 (newstodate): Even with the determination of the country's president, Turkey will have to postpone the cut-over to the new Istanbul Airport from today's Ataturk Airport.
So far, the plan has been to move all commercial passenger operations from the old to the new airport by the end of this month, but the final transfer has now been postponed till March 2019, following a meeting between the stakeholders involved on December 18, 2018.
The new Istanbul Airport's official opening was actually already celebrated on October 29, 2018, coinciding with the National Day celebrations, but it thus turned out to be a publicity stunt only.
In the plans now aborted, all belly cargo handling would transfer from Ataturk Airport to the new Istanbul Airport by the end of this month, while freighter operations would remain at Ataturk Airport until a later date.
So far, no details concerning the new decisions are available.
