Dec 05, 2018 (newstodate): Sweden's Gothenburg Airport is looking forward to welcoming a new operator by mid-December: Qatar Airways.
Starting from December 12, 2018, Qatar Airways will be offering five weekly rotations with Boeing 787-8 aircraft on the route between Doha Hamad International Airport and Gothenburg - an important industrial and business center with the largest port in the Nordic countries.
Cargo-wise, this will have an immediate impact on the airport's volumes that have seen a drop in 2018, down 1.6 percent, y-o-y, to 46,850 tonnes during the period January-September 2018, with exports down 3.8 percent and imports at stagnant levels.
Most of the cargo, 75 percent, is today trucked to and from the airport, leaving only 25 percent as flown cargo compared to the corresponding proportions at Stockholm at 75 percent, and Malmo at 100 percent as flown cargo.
During the period October 2017-September 2018, Gothenburg Airport was Sweden's 3rd largest in cargo exports with 17.5 percent of the volumes through Swedish airport, and 2nd largest in imports, with 32.1 per of the total volumes.
