Dec 10, 2018 (newstodate): Slovenia's Adria Airways seems intent to go all-out with a new strategy to turn from red to black already in 2019.
2018 will be another troubling year in the red, expected to result in the carrier's worst financial performance in fifty years.
Despite this bleak outlook, the airline optimistically expects 2019 to mark a splendid rebound with profits.
The airline has inked a LoI for the acquisition of 15 Superjet 100 aircraft with first deliveries in 2019 and also holds an order for delivery three Bombardier CRJ900 aircraft - and even considers placing an order for an unspecified number of CRJ700 aircraft with deliveries starting in 2019 already.
The airline's recipe for expected recovery in 2019 builds on expansion in the ACMI and wet-lease markets where the carrier is already contracted to be operating for Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Luxair and Lufthansa.
Another part of the strategy is to grow outside the small home market, with the opening of a base at Paderborn in Germany and plans for entering the Swiss market as well with a base at Bern.
This strategy thus seems to be similar to the thinking of the Estonian carrier Nordica that is also eyeing potentials in more emphasis on ACMI and moving operations to bases outside its small home market.
