Dec 18, 2018 (newstodate): Hard hit on the financial muscle, the Icelandic LCC WOW Air is exiting from the route to India after only few months of operation.
The last flight on the route Keflavik-Delhi will thus be performed in January 2019, leaving the route open for other adventurers as WOW Air hands its wide-body aircraft back to lessor shrinking it fleet from 20 to 11 aircraft with only A320 Family aircraft left.
Icelandair may be sniffing at the option while not making any announcement at this stage.
The route between Iceland and India was conceived as one leg in connecting North America with India via the transit stop at Keflavik, and compared to WOW Air Icelandair will benefit from a deeper grip on the US market through its long-standing and extensive coverage of routes between North America and Europe via Keflavik.
After WOW Air's ambitions have been cut to size, Icelandair will again be in a position to grow further and according to Icelandic interviews with the airline's CEO, Icelandair is now expecting potentials for an extra growth by 14 percent above the nine percent already envisaged in 2019.
