If talks end conclusively, the carrier is expected to launch flights from Riga to Zaporizhia International Airport already by the end of 2019 or early 2020 after the commissioning of a new passenger terminal currently under construction.
Ukraine's sixth-largest city in the east of the country is an important industrial center producing steel, aluminum, aircraft engines, automobiles, and other heavy industry goods.
Already operating flights into Zaporizhia include airlines LOT, Pegasus Airlines and Turkish Airlines.
airBaltic is already operating flights from Riga to Kiev, Odessa, and Dnipro, adding flights to Lviv from April 1, 2019.
