Dec 04, 2018 (newstodate): Georgia's new privately-owned carrier MyWay Airlines has high ambitions for expanding its route network - but has hit harsh realities.
The carrier has thus announced that all flights will be suspended till March 2019, except on the route between Tbilisi and Tel Aviv.
The carrier has seen low passenger figures much affected by the Russian/Ukrainian rift, where first flights to Kharkov, then Kiev had to be suspended.
MyWay Airlines is now to oversee its sales system and is also to perform maintenance checks on its three aircraft during January-February 2019.
Another factor hampering the airline's development is stiff competition in the market from western and other airlines that operate freely into Georgian airports, while MyWay Airlines has found it hard to obtain reciprocal traffic rights to develop its route network and frequencies.
The airline is part of the activities of the Chinese investment group Hualing that is also behind the establishing of a new industrial zone in Kutaisi as well as numerous real estate projects in Tbilisi and Kutaisi.
