Dec 20, 2018 (newstodate): Customs at Yekaterinburg Koltsovo Airport, in Russia's Sverdlovsk Region, has emerged as the country's #2, only after Moscow, when it comes to volume of shipments handled in 2018.
So far, no less than 70 mio shipments have been processed at the customs point, which is an increase by 62 percent, y-o-y, according to Russian media.
Driving the increase are private customers' e-trade activities that mainly comprise internet orders for clothing, footwear, gifts, gadget accessories, and various spare parts.
Other statistics paint a less rosy picture: as the number of shipments into Yekaterinburg keeps rising, so does the number of freight forwarding-related violations.
So far into 2018, 440,000 instances have been reported. And the number of smuggling attempts rose from 1,200 in 2017 to 3,000 in 2018, the media say.
