Nov 05, 2018 (newstodate): Plans are moving fast head for opening of a new route to provide Norwegian seafood exporters with direct air link to the Chinese markets.
A key driver behind the project is the Norwegian company Pole Position Logistics aiming at launch of Boeing 777F operations from summer 2019 at Evenes Airport, in the county's northernmost part close to the major whitefish and redfish production sites.
-We have now secured firm commitments from producers and exporters in the region, and talks have also been opened with potential airlines to operate the freighter service to start from April 2019, says Stig Winther, Pole Position Logistics.
-Apart from finalizing an agreement with an operator of the freighter service, other issues to be settled concern pertinent certification by the Chinese authorities of the exporters, and some customs issues are also to be cleared up prior to launch.
-We expect, however, all these conditions to be met before the end of 2018, leaving time for setting up the operation that will be a triangular flight coming into Eveness Airport part-loaded from a point in Continental Europe for direct onward flight to a Chinese destination.
Pole Position Logistics is currently participating in the Norway-China Seafood Summit in connection with the China Fisheries & Seafood Expo in Qingdao, November 6-9.
-In connection with these events, we are to have further talks with some of the airlines already in negotiations with us concerning the coming new freighter service, says Mr Winther.
