Nov 19, 2018 (newstodate): Russia's aircraft manufacturer Sukhoi is keen to gain a foothold in Iran to exploit the current sanctions regime.
The US sanctions barring Boeing and Airbus sales to Iran have put a stop to Iranian carrier's plans for renovating their aircraft fleets that are generally consisting of old aircraft.
Now Sukhoi has been forced to accept that sale of the Superjet 100 aircraft to Iranian carriers will have to be postponed till the proportion of western-brand components and systems has been brought down.
22 percent of the components and systems in today's Superjet 100 aircraft are still western brands, and this percentage has to be brought down to under 10 percent before the Superjet can be exported to Iran.
An MoU was signed in April 2018 for 40 Superjet 100 aircraft to two Iranian airlines in the period up to 2022 - but this has to be put on ice..
