Nov 06, 2018 (newstodate): The Russian airport Nizhny Novgorod International Airport has been certified to handling of Boeing 747-400F aircraft.
The airport is the main alternate airport serving the Moscow region and expects to be able to attract new air cargo movements with the certification.
At the same time, plans are also to develop a new international logistics center at the airport to relieve the pressure on Moscow's other airports.
The airport is currently undergoing an intense expansion project that also includes plans for a new cargo terminal.
So far, cargo volumes through the airport are modest, with only 770 tonnes of cargo and 300 tonnes of mail handled during the first 10 months of 2018.
