Nov 16, 2018 (newstodate): The cautious thaw in relations between the two states on the Korean peninsula may now reach new heights.
The North Korean government has offered its counterpart South Korea to open up its airspace for air traffic into South Korea.
If carried through, the open skies over Korea would shorten the flying times for airlines operating at South Korea's Seoul Airport, contributing to optimization of routes and cost savings on the part of the airlines that would no longer be forced to bypass the North Korean airspace on flights to and from Europe.
The proposal was made during the first-ever negotiations on the initiative of the North Korea on cooperation in the field of civil aviation.
