Nov 02, 2018 (newstodate): The Latvian carrier airBaltic is to launch flights to Lviv, its third destination in Ukraine in next year's summer schedule.
The first flight will be performed on April 1, 2019, and the schedule comprises four weekly rotations with Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
Lviv was actually on the carrier's wishing-list already since 2004 when airBaltic opened flights to its first Ukrainian destination, Kiev, that is still on the route network together with Odessa that was reopened from March 26, 2017, after being first introduced from August 2, 2005.
airBaltic has, however, been much more present in the Ukrainian market with flights to Simferopol from April 11, 2006, and to Dnepropetrovsk from October 31, 2005, and plans were earlier also prepared for launch of flights to Kharkiv.
However, the global financial crisis from 2008 as well as the Russian annexation of the Crimea in 2014 changed the market conditions and airBaltic's Ukrainian plans.
