Nov 22, 2018 (newstodate): SAS is heating up competition on the route between Copenhagen and the Faroe Islands in 2019.
During the peak summer season starting July 1 till August 8, 2019, SAS will increase frequency on the route between Copenhagen and Vagar Airport from seven to nine weekly rotations using Airbus A320 aircraft.
SAS made its entry on the route with the first flight on April 27, 2017, breaking the virtual monopoly enjoyed by the Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways that started operations on the route on March 28, 1988.
Until 2004, Maersk Air also operated flights between Vagar and Copenhagen, and another attempt to serve the route was attempted by the privately-owned carrier FaroeJet that launched flights with a single Avro RJ-100 on May 15, 2006, but folded its wings on December 17, 2006, already.
