Nov20, 2018 (newstodate): Lithuania is keen to develop its connectivity by air links to sought-after destinations in the market.
Managing the country's three international airports at Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga, Lithuanian Airports is now clustering with a number of government institutions, municipality organizations, entrepreneurs' and trade associations and separate enterprises to present business proposals to airlines.
Named "Blitz sessions", the stakeholders team up in meetings with potential new airlines to demonstrate their commitment to the opening of new routes and the market potentials for airlines in allocating capacity to routes between Europe and the three Lithuanian airports.
Enhancing these efforts is the current incentive scheme launched in 2015 granting airlines opening new routes in Lithuania with subsidies up to euro 200,000 for the first three years of operations.
So far, this incentive scheme has prompted the opening of 10 new international routes at the airports.
The first Blitz session was held in October 2018, and 10 more sessions are so far planned with strategically significant air carriers.
