Nov 30, 2018 (newstodate): The decision by the Icelandair Group to scrap plans for acquisition of the Icelandic low-cost carrier WOW Air did not allow WOW Air much time to relax.
WOW Air is in deep financial trouble and would need a partner to pull it out of the quagmire.
It seems, however, that Santa Claus has come early to WOW Air, as the US investment company Indigo Partners has entered a due diligence agreement to buy a minority stake in Wow Air, already being an investor in the Hungarian LCC Wizz Air.
WOW Air has now returned four Airbus aircraft to their lessors, and the carrier has also taken steps to rein in on its flights schedule.
Having earlier announced the decision to pull out from routes to St. Louis, Cincinnati and Cleveland, WOW Air has now also announced that flights to Pittsburgh will be terminated from January 11, 2019, flights to Orlando will be offered only from December 11 to January 8, 2019 and again from April 1 to April 30, 2019, while flights to Los Angeles in January 2019 will be performed only once a week and suspended from January 28 to April 2, 2019.
