Nov 19, 2018 (newstodate): The Estonian carrier Nordica confirms a new strategy to optimize the profitability and utilization of the aircraft fleet.
As earlier reported, Nordica will discard three unprofitable routes from its Tallinn hub to St Petersburg, Oslo and Amsterdam from early January 2019, and the number of seasonal summer routes will also be reduced in 2019.
-If there are three or four carriers on a route and more seats than the market needs, we should not burn taxpayers money and fight for the market share, says Toomas Uibo, Nordica Head of Marketing and Communication.
-Nordica's mission is to ensure that there is competition in the market, and good connectivity with important destinations reauested by Estonians. If there is enough demand for the route, we will certainly operate it in a sustainable way, too.
-But because of these considerations, the strategy developed by our CEO Hannes Saarpuu is to be focusing more on the ACMI market in order to be a profitable company, says Mr Uibo.
