Nov 02, 2018 (newstodate): After a long suspension, air traffic has resumed between Greece and Macedonia, now named the Republic of North Macedonia.
With the first flight between Athens and Skopje on November 1, 2018, the route has thus been reopened after a long hiatus since 2003 as evidence of improved relations between the two countries.
Till now, a hostile dispute has reigned over the naming of Macedonia as well as the naming since 2006 of the airport in Skopje to Alexander the Great Airport, which incurred Greece's fury as hurting its national pride.
Since February 2018, Skopje Airport has thus deleted "Alexander the Great" from its official name as a gesture to Greece.
Aegean Airlines is now offering two weekly rotations on the route with Bombardier Q400 aircraft.
