Oct 31, 2018 (newstodate): Billund Airport has been consolidated as a stable business for Turkish Cargo since the launch of all-cargo services in 2016.
The first freighter connecting Billund and Istanbul was launched on April 10, 2016, with the second added from early November 2017.
Latest news is that while the mid-week Airbus A330-200F freighter has so far been routed Istanbul-Amsterdam-Billund-Istanbul, it will now be operated directly between Istanbul and Billund with the first flight this week.
Driving the process is the fact that Turkish Airlines is now serving Copenhagen Airport only with narrow-body aircraft which requires additional cargo capacity as provided with the freighter operations at Billund.
-We are happy to see growth in both import and export volumes, cementing our position in the Danish market, a company source says.
-As these volumes grow to maturity we would not exclude the addition of even a third freighter through Billund Airport, starting out with a shared operation, he says.
Turkish Cargo is now the only all-cargo operator in the Danish market, excluding the integrators.
