Oct 11, 2018 (newstodate): Once again, Ethiopian Cargo's plans for launch of freighter services at Norway's Oslo Airport were aborted.
Having earlier been scheduled for September 27, 2018, the new date was fixed at October 11, 2018 - but this did not hold either.
-The opening flight on October 11, 2018, has been postponed by joint decision with the stakeholders, Ethiopian Cargo confirms to newstodate.
The company also has no new launch date settled, according to the spokesperson.
One leading seafood logistics company says that bookings for the launch flight proved too small to warrant a profitable flight as demand for seafood to Guangzhou is currently close to zero in the wake of the recent Golden Week in China.
It therefore remains in the open air when, or if, the planned service will pop up on the monitor again.
The service would be operated with a Boeing 777-200F routed from Addis Abeba to Lagos, in Nigeria, to Oslo, and continuing to Guangzhou via a stop at Liege to load other European shipments for China.
Industry sources indicate that the routing from Oslo via a stop at Liege is not overly popular with Norway's seafood exporters, and the rates might also be less favorable due to the prolonged flight to China.
