Oct 15, 2018 (newstodate): Atran Airlines, part of the Volga-Dnepr Group, is to add more Boeing 737 freighter capacity.
The carrier has signed a lease agreement with GECAS for two 737-800 converted freighters with one to be delivered before the end of this year, and the second to follow in H1, 2019.
Based at Moscow's Vnukovo International Airport and currently operating a fleet of three Boeing 737-400SF freighters, Atran Airlines provides cargo services within the Volga-Dnepr Group's system on routes in Europe, Russia and the CIS.
One destination since January 9, 2014 on Atran Airlines' network is Sweden's Malmo Airport where the carrier been operating freighter flights to Moscow, feeding cargo into and from ABC's network.
Atran Airlines traces its history back to 1942, and in 2011 the Volga-Dnepr acquired Atran to develop its local and regional air cargo network connecting to its freighter services.
Besides, Atran has also landed six-year contracts with UPS and TNT in the European and Russian express cargo markets.
Launch customer for the Boeing 737-800 Converted Freighter, the Swedish/British carrier West Atlantic now operates two of four of the aircraft type with a large cargo door, equipped with CFM56-7B engines, and carrying up to 23.9 tonnes of cargo with 12 main deck positions over 2,000 nautical miles.
