Oct 02, 2018 (newstodate): The two airlines in the Icelandic/Danish charter company Primera Air Group, Primera Air Scandinavia based in Denmark and Primera Air Nordic based in Latvia are now history as the court is handling their bankruptcy application, effective from October 2, 2018.
2019 was to see the opening of a spree of new low-cost transatlantic routes from Brussels and Berlin, and Primera was already operating similar flights from London and Paris to New York, Boston, Washington D.C., Toronto and Montreal.
With a current fleet of five Airbus A321neo and 10 Boeing 737NG aircraft operating flights from Europe to more than 70 destinations across the Mediterranean, Middle East, Asia, Caribbean and North America, Primera Air had placed orders for another 23 Boeing Max 9, Airbus A321neo and Airbus A321LR aircraft.
-Reasons, I am sure, are many but very high cost for the aircraft with corrosion last year as well as the delays of our new Airbuses lead to too high costs for wet lease and cancellations which in the end became too much for the airlines. Our owner was working on securing financing but was not able to in the end, the company's CEO wrote to staff on October 2, 2018.
