Oct 08, 2018 (newstodate): The Faroese carrier Atlantic Airways has signed a second lease agreement for an Airbus A320neo aircraft.
As in the previous case, the lease agreement is with the US company Air Lease and the aircraft will be delivered to Atlantic Airways in spring 2020, one year after the arrival of the first A320neo slated to arrive in March 2019.
Both aircraft will be delivered with precision navigation equipment utilizing the RNP-AR flight procedures provided by Quovadis.
Based at Vagar Airport, Atlantic Airways operates a fleet comprising two Airbus A319 and one Airbus A320 aircraft, as well as two AgustaWestland AW139 helicopters.
One of the two A319 aircraft is due for redelivery to is owner in spring 2019 as the first Airbus A320neo is due for arrival.
The Faroe Islands is keen to develop its air connectivity with Europe and to boost tourism as well, currently expanding the hotel capacity at the capital and investing in promotion of the destination.
To facilitate the new aircraft fleet, plans are also on the table for construction of a new maintenance hangar accommodating the A320neo aircraft, and a private group is working on setting up an Airbus A320 simulator training facility at the airport.
