Oct 19, 2018 (newstodate): The US Federal Aviation Administration has announced another two-years extension of the ban on flights by US aircraft to airports in the Crimea.
The flight ban was first implemented in 2014 as a sanction on the internationally condemned Russian annexation of the Crimean peninsula.
It was renewed for another two-years period in October 2016 - and now again, with effect till October 2020.
Besides serving as a sanction on the annexation, it also serves to ward against risks from flying into the contested East Ukrainian area where military actions are still being conducted, posing a safety risk on civil aviation.
