Oct 01, 2018 (newstodate): Georgia's new privately-owned carrier MyWay Airlines has high ambitions for expanding its route network - but the pace is conditioned by external factors..
-Objectively, I do not believe this is the right time for Myway Airlines to provide a detailed overview of our plans, says Gregory Pomerantsev, MyWay Airlines Deputy Commercial Director - who will be known also from his earlier position with airBaltic.
-There are quite a few external factors that affected our plans during this year. We have thus been refused to launch scheduled operations by the Civil Aviation Authorities of some countries due to the alleged uncertain status of "prevailing ownership and effective control" - a reference to the Chinese ownership of the airline.
-We therefore had to re-arrange initially planned routes openings and also postpone delivery of our third aircraft till April 2019.
-On the bright side, we are happy with the launch of scheduled operations from Tbilisi to Tel Aviv and to Kharkiv which performed well during the summer and have been extended throughout the Winter 2018/19 season.
-On October 5, 2018, we are launching flights between Tbilisi and Kiev with initially two weekly rotations, adding the third weekly frequency during the W'18 season. And on October 28, Myway Airlines will launch two weekly fights on the route between Tbilisi and Budapest, thus opening our airline's first route to a destination in the EU.
-Looking at the Baltic market, we do realistically see potential to operate Tbilisi-Vilnius in the next one or two years, says Mr Pomeransev.
In the fleet now are two ex-Shandong Airlines Boeing 737-800 aircraft delivered in October and November 2017, respectively.
The third aircraft was slated for delivery in July 2018, with a fourth to be added in December 2018 - but these plans have thus been revised.
The airline is part of the activities of the Chinese investment group Hualing that is also behind the establishing of a new industrial zone in Kutaisi as well as numerous real estate projects in Tbilisi and Kutaisi.
