Oct 09, 2018 (newstodate): Finnair lifted a total of 14,469 tonnes of cargo on scheduled passenger and freighter flights in September 2018, almost unchanged against the preceding month.
This was a drop by 4.8 percent, y-o-y, due to the shortfall of volumes on purchased traffic that was down by 45.9 percent to 921 tonnes after the end of the agreement with JAL from October 2017, and the freighter traffic that now consists only of three weekly freighter flights between Helsinki and Brussels, operated by DHL.
In September volumes on the Asian routes increased 3.7 percent, y-o-y, to 10,463 tonnes despite of typhoon Jebi that disrupted air cargo flows for several weeks, especially in Japan's Osaka area.
The North Atlantic traffic was also up by 24.9 percent to 1,077 tonnes while volumes on the European routes continued to decrease by 20.8 percent, to 1,961 tonnes.
In the first nine months of the year, Finnair Cargo has handled 113,674 tonnes of cargo, which is 2.1 percent below last year.
Available scheduled cargo tonne kilometers increased by 13.7 percent, y-o-y, while Revenue scheduled cargo tonne kilometers were up by 3.7 percent, driving cargo load factors down by 5.6 percentage-points on the Asian lanes, while more restricted capacity on the North American flights saw cargo load factors up by 1.9 percentage-points in September 2018.
The over-all load factor during January-September 2018 was 59 percent, down 6.3 percentage-points, leaving room for better sales to fill up the increasing capacity.
