Oct 11, 2018 (newstodate): Emirates is celebrating its first two years with freighter service at Norway's Oslo Airport.
Launched on October 11, 2016, Emirates SkyCargo has now online at Oslo with a weekly Boeing 777F freighter service to Dubai offering close to 100 tonnes of cargo capacity per flight carrying primarily Norwegian seafood shipments.
In addition to the weekly freighter service, Emirates SkyCargo also transports cargo on its daily passenger services to and from Oslo claiming to have transported close to 35,000 tonnes of Norwegian salmon from Oslo to a number of important export markets in the Middle East and East Asia.
In addition to seafood, pharmaceuticals and general cargo, Emirates SkyCargo's freighter service has also carried large items including aircraft engines, ship propellers weighing more than 10 tonnes apiece and other out-sized spare parts for the marine industry on its now more than 100 scheduled freighter flights at Oslo since October 2016.
-We continue to monitor the market- and should there be additional demand for capacity, and if it is viable commercially, Emirates SkyCargo will consider frequency increases, Hiran Perera, Emirates Senior Vice President, Cargo Planning & Freighters, told newstodate at the launch of the freighter service.
However, Emirates SkyCargo has obviously not seen "additional demand" in the market, sticking to a once-weekly rotation.
