Oct 01, 2018 (newstodate): The Finnish Competition Authority has now approved the acquisition by Danish carrier DAT of the Finnish regional carrier Norra.
Danish Air Transport is thus to become the major shareholder in Finnair's provider of regional air services, Norra, acquiring 60 percent of the shares.
The Finnish authority has found that the acquisition does not significantly impede competition in the Finnish market as the routes operated by DAT do not overlap with Finnair or Nordic Regional Airlines, and the parties to the merger will not compete within any market segment.
Norra currently operates a fleet of 12 ATR 72-500 and 12 Embraer E190LR aircraft for Finnair, and these aircraft are not comprised by the transaction with DAT and will remain owned by Finnair.
In October 2017, Finnair took ownership of all shares in Norra as a precondition for finding a future partnership model.
Norra is the successor of Flybe Nordic, set up as a JV between Finnair and FlyBe in November 2011 after buying the Finnish carrier Commuter Airlines.
The JV did not last long, however, and in May 2015 Finnair took over FlyBe's 60 percent of the stake in the JV, later re-selling this stake to Staffpoint Holding and Kilco.
