Jan 16, 2018 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Arlanda Airport is now capable of handling aircraft up to the size of the Airbus A380.
A new gate has been commissioned offering two exits to allow for over-the-wing boarding of an Airbus A380 simultaneously with lower-deck boarding.
By this, the airport will be able to load more than 500 passengers within 35 minutes.
Today, Stockholm Arlanda Airport is not served by Airbus A380 aircraft but should Emirates decide to replace some of the current daily Boeing 777-300ER flights with the Airbus A380, facilities would be in place.
The Airbus A380 has already made a few visits to Stockholm Arlanda, with the first visit on a presentation tour by Lufthansa on September 2010.
Emirates is today the only carrier operating scheduled Airbus A380 flights to Scandinavia, flying the aircraft daily between Dubai and Copenhagen since December 1, 2015
