Jan 23, 2018 (newstodate): Volumes of Norwegian salmon to China are growing from the start of 2018, while tonnages are still on the low side.
In the first two weeks of January, a total of 1,014 tonnes was exported to China including 487 tonnes into Mainland China and 517 tonnes into Hong Kong that maintains its special status.
Together, this amounts to an increase by 135 percent, y-o-y, boding well for 2018.
Since the start of the Chinese suspension of salmon imports, Vietnam has served as a main gateway for Norwegian salmon to China, but as China is continuously opening up Vietnam's role in the traffic is diminishing.
During the first two weeks of 2018, the volumes of Norwegian salmon have thus decreased by 60 percent, y-o-y, to 381 tonnes.
